Getting Started

Do I need to download or install any software?

No downloads are required. ShapeShuffle is a lightweight tool that runs completely inside your web browser, so you can start designing immediately on any system.

Do I need prior 3D modelling or CAD experience?

Not at all. ShapeShuffle skips the steep learning curve of traditional CAD software. You can build custom shapes right away using simple drag-and-drop actions and building block controls.

Design & Feature Capabilities

What types of shapes and parts can I generate?

You can start with basic 3D primitives like boxes, cylinders, cones, and spheres. Beyond primitives, ShapeShuffle includes generators for technical components like ISO metric screw threads, spur gears, and extruded 3D text.

Can I combine shapes or create custom holes?

Yes. You can merge multiple shapes into a single unified object or convert any shape into a "hole" to cut out custom slots, recesses, or internal channels.

Can I import my own files, images, or artwork?

Yes. ShapeShuffle supports importing existing 3D models (STL, OBJ), 2D vector graphic artwork (SVG), and 2D images (PNG) to turn into 3D shapes, custom stencils, or heightmap terrain models.

Advanced Features & Scripting

What is ShuffleScript and how does it work?

ShuffleScript is a plain-English scripting engine built into ShapeShuffle. It lets you automate repetitive design steps, create parametric builds, and record interactive model construction playbacks step-by-step.

Is ShapeShuffle suitable for complex or precise projects?

Yes. While it starts simple, ShapeShuffle is built with precise controls, alignment tools, grid snapping, image heightmap generation, and code-based parametric design features when you are ready for advanced workflows.

Exporting & 3D Printing

How do I export my designs for 3D printing?

When your design is complete, you can download it directly as an STL file. This format is ready to open immediately in your preferred 3D printing slicer software.

About the Project

Is this free to use?

Yes, free to use, no account needed. It's supported by affiliate links and (hopefully, eventually) donations — not a subscription or paywall.

The code isn't open source, but it's built on several freely-distributable libraries, credited with their licenses kept intact in the source.

Every released version is committed to keep working forever — nothing in the tool can force an update or stop it working, no matter what happens to this project later.

Right now, during beta, it's online-only. Once it's out of beta, it'll be a single downloadable file you can keep and run offline for good.

During beta there's basic, anonymous usage tracking to help gauge whether this is worth building out further — no accounts, nothing tied to you personally. That goes away once beta ends.
